How
does the foundation differ from NCMA?
The
NCMA Foundation is incorporated as a separate, tax-exempt, non-profit
corporation. It is governed by its own set of bylaws and board
of trustees. Without formal membership, foundation donors serve
as the supporting constituency. The foundation functions as a
resource development and grant-making organization, not an implementing
one. Working cooperatively with other organizations and educational
institutions, the foundation funds multi-faceted education and
research programs.
How
is the foundation governed?
The
foundation is governed by a board of trustees, serving voluntarily
and without compensation, and the officers of NCMA. In addition,
the board of trustees has appointed three committees: National
Endowment Council; Program Review Committee and Investment/Finance
Committee, each comprised of NCMA member volunteers.
What
is the foundation's focus?
Interviews
with NCMA membership provided strategic input on specific programs,
markets and audiences most affecting the future of the concrete
masonry industry. From those interviews, the foundation formulated
three areas of focus: workforce development; codes & standards
research; and architectural and engineering student curriculum.
Programs within one or more of the initiatives may be candidates
for funding consideration.
Why
give to the foundation?
The
foundations programs will help secure the future health
and stability of the concrete masonry industry, your industry.
Through the endowment, donated monies will remain intact with
only the interest on the corpus used to fund programs, thus providing
a regular, ongoing source of funding for the foundation. The many
obstacles and issues faced by your industry now and in the future
can be addressed by a financially sound foundation with benefits
for today and for generations to follow. Supporting your industrys
foundation is a way to give back to the industry from which you
and your family have benefited over the years.
Are
contributions tax deductible?
Yes.
The NCMA Foundation is incorporated under Section 501(c)(3) of
the internal revenue code as a non-profit, tax-exempt, education/research
foundation. Financial investments and contributions are fully
tax-deductible under the law.
Do
pledges have to be paid at once?
No.
Pledge payments can be made to the foundation over a five-year
period payable on an annual, semi-annual or quarterly basis. Arrangements
specific to your pledge are made confidentially with the executive
administrator.
How
are contributions recognized?
Those
investing in the industry through a pledge donation to the foundation
will be recognized according to their wishes. A public recognition
program, in accordance with the donors level of contribution,
has been established:
-
specially
designed lapel pins;
-
plaque
denoting the donors support;
-
public
acknowledgments and formal recognition ceremonies at NCMAs
convention and midyear meetings;
-
local
and national recognition in industry publications such as CM
News; and
-
honored
guests at special receptions for foundation donors.
When
will programs be funded?
Unless
otherwise specified, contributions made to the foundation are
inviolate. Programs will be funded from the interest earned on
the invested principle. Therefore, in order to fund programs,
the foundation must first raise money. The timing of program funding
depends largely on the speed of securing pledges along with the
timely payment on pledges once secured. The foundation has funded
over $50,000 in scholarships as well as several projects in the
areas of workforce development and codes and standards research.
Each year, the foundation's source of income increases providing
more funds for future project investment.
How
are programs funded?
Funding inquiries are sent to the NCMA Foundation. Grant guidelines
are forwarded to the requestor to insure that the necessary information
is included in the final grant request. The funding request is
reviewed by the Program Review Committee, which meets twice a
year. The Program Review Committee forwards the funding request,
along with the committee's recommendation, to the board of trustees
for consideration and ruling. The requestor is then notified of
the final decision.
